Resumen
Among the many topics in children books, we wanted to focus on an underresearched topic: sexuality. The objective was to investigate how sexuality is taught and shown, both from the knowledge and imagination points of view. By means of an observation table we studied a number of stories available to children in five public libraries in the province of Barcelona. The resulting sample comprised forty-one books of stories for children and youngsters dealing with different aspects of sexuality. From this information we have extracted results that have focused on four aspects: we have analyzed the years they were published and the topics covered, the timing and values derived, the themes related to the type of book (if imagination or knowledge) and finally, the topics and the corresponding image. Different conclusions resulting from this analysis indicate, among other things that, while treating sexuality in a more varied and open manner, some aspects related to sexuality are still being avoided—especially when addressed at children.
