Resumen
Reporting of AIDS cases has been mandatory in Spain since 1987, but only eight out of the seventeen Spanish autonomous communities have HIV reporting systems [1]. In Catalonia, voluntary reporting of newly diagnosed HIV infections in adolescents and adults was implemented on January 2001 as part of the Catalan Integrated HIV/STI Surveillance System (Sistema Integrat de Vigilància Epidemiològica del SIDA/VIH/ITS de Catalunya, SIVES), which also includes data collection on behaviour, diagnosis and treatment monitoring [2-4]. This paper describes the increase in sexually transmitted HIV infections, using regional surveillance data from SIVES. (Resumen extraído del artículo)
